The Chain Gang carries many types of bicycles because what is proper or right for one individual is not necessarily the right bicycle for everyone. We give you a choice. Below is a list of the types of bicycles that we carry and the manufactures that provide us with those bikes. Road Bikes: All three of our main lines have Road bikes.. The touring and sport categories are pretty much a thing of the past due to light weight mountain bikes taking their place. The Road bikes that we carry are race oriented and very fast. Giant, Santa Cruz and KHS all have awesome models to choose from. Price ranges are $550 to $4000.
Cyclo-Cross Bikes Cyclo-Cross bikes have been around longer than mountain bikes. They are a very small but growing segment. These bikes are basically road bikes designed for off road use. Cyclo-Cross racing is a specialized form of off road racing and takes place mostly in the road racing off season . Some of the most overlooked uses for Cyclo-Cross bikes is for commuting and touring since they can be easily equipped with fenders and racks. We would like to see this category grow and become more popular. Bike brands that we are able to provide in this category are Giant, KHS, Soma, and Surly.
Commuting Bikes There are very few bikes available direct from the factory that are set up specifically for commuting. Commuting bikes can take many forms. If you want a bike for commuting we will outfit whatever bike suits your needs best. The best types of bikes for this is Mountain, Cross and Recumbent.
Mountain Bikes: Mountain bikes are the largest segment of bikes on the market today. There are many sub-categories. Rigid (meaning no suspension), Hardtails (front suspension only), Full Suspension, Comfort Mtb’s (built for comfort, not for speed), Freeride and Downhill Specific bikes are the majority of types. We carry Giant, KHS and Santa Cruz brands. Price ranges are $189.00 to $5000.00
Tandems Self Explanatory. We carry KHS and are also an authorized dealer for Co-Motion. We are also authorized dealers for recumbent tandems from Vision and Rans Corp. Price ranges are $729 to $10,000
Recumbents This type of bike is one of the fastest growing categories. Just like conventional bikes, these come in racing, touring, and off road models. We carry Rans, Vision and can special order other brands for your particular needs. Price ranges are $459 to $5000.
BMX Bicycle Motocross has evolved into many specific types of bikes. There are now 4 main types that include Race, Jumping, Trail, Street/Vert and Recreational. We carry Free Agent and Mosh and Giant. Price ranges are $159 to $649.
Juvenile Bikes Built for the youngsters and beginner riders. We carry Mosh, Free Agent, and Giant. Price ranges from $69 to $159
Comfort Bikes Built for comfort not for speed with the exception of the fast recumbents which we still would categories as comfortable. Price ranges are $239 and Up.
